2010 - 2014
The Republic of Togo has a population of 5.75 million and an area of 56,785 km2. The southern part of the country belongs to the subequatorial climate zone and the northern part to the savanna climate zone. Gross National Income (GNI) is US$2.96 billion, GNI per capita is US$440, and the economic growth rate is 3.4%. The primary, secondary, and tertiary industries account for 45.9%, 12.7%, and 41.4%, respectively. In 1991, Togo formulated the "National 10-Year Supply Improvement Plan," but the target was only achieved at a rate of about 40%. Therefore, the water supply rate in rural and semi-urban areas remained low and needed to be improved, so the Government of Togo formulated a national policy to promote the improvement of the water supply rate and the operational structure of water supply services. The project aimed to improve residents' access to safe water in village areas with high levels of water poverty. Specifically, the project included the construction of 100 deep-well facilities with manual pumps and 10 small-scale water supply network facilities with motorized pumps in Savanes, and the rehabilitation of 50 existing manually operated pumps in the Maritime. |
