Implementation Assistance on Agriculture Income Improvement Project (AIIP), Republic of the Union of Myanmar |
![]() ![]() |
2018 - 2021
In Myanmar, approximately 60% of the population is engaged in agriculture. However, in recent years, there has been an accelerated outflow of labor from the agricultural sector to the industrial sector or from rural to urban areas. It is anticipated that farmers may face a shortage of wage laborers in the future. Therefore, there is a need for a transition to modern, capital-intensive agriculture, which involves the proper introduction of high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, as well as the introduction of agricultural machinery, and the improvement and strengthening of production infrastructure and food distribution networks. This project aimed to improve agricultural income and promote economic development in Myanmar, focusing on the area surrounding the Tapanzeik Dam, the largest irrigation area in the country. Activities included the development of agricultural production and distribution infrastructure, improvement of irrigation facilities, dissemination of agricultural techniques, and promotion of agricultural mechanization. This project is related to the "Preparatory Survey for Intensive Agriculture Improvement Project". In particular, this project was carried out as an initial implementation of the yen loan project, providing technical support in advance for smooth implementation. |
