2016 - 2018
Agriculture in Myanmar heavily relies on labor-intensive farming practices. However, with recent economic development, there has been a notable acceleration of labor migration from rural to urban areas and from the agricultural sector to the industrial and construction sectors. It is anticipated that farmers will face a serious shortage of agricultural laborers in the near future. To address this situation, there is a necessity to transition from labor-intensive agriculture to modern, capital-intensive agriculture. The scope of this survey was comprehensive, covering activities such as increasing crop yields, disseminating technological improvements, promoting agricultural mechanization, consolidating agricultural land for efficient use of irrigation water and farm machinery, and improving irrigation and drainage facilities. The study area encompasses the irrigation region of the Tapanzeik Dam, which houses Myanmar's largest irrigation land. The plan resulting from this survey is expected to contribute to the long-term increase in income for beneficiary farmers, bridge the income gap between the agricultural sector and the industrial/construction sectors, and contribute to the balanced economic development of the country.
